Tropan XL

Tropan XL is prescribed for the treatment of inability to control urine, uncontrolled contraction of the bladder wall, birth defect affecting the spine along with several other problems.

Tropan XL is used to treat urinary incontinence (inability to control urine), urgency and frequency to pass urine in unstable bladder conditions due to idiopathic detrusor instability (uncontrolled contraction of the bladder wall) or neurogenic bladder disorders (detrusor hyperreflexia in conditions such as spina bifida [birth defect affecting the spine] and multiple sclerosis). It is also indicated in children over 5 years of age for detrusor overactivity or a neurogenic bladder disorders, and for night time bedwetting, when other treatments have failed.

Tropan XL active ingredient is Oxybutynin. It belongs to class of medications called anticholinergics/ antimuscarinics. It works on the smooth muscles of the bladder, relaxes it and relieves the spasm thereby controlling the frequency of contractions and urgency to pass urine.

Oxybutynin is an antispasmodic medicine that helps control overactive bladder, a chronic condition that can be improved with medication. Oxybutynin may reduce the frequency of bathroom visits and may help to control wetting accidents.

Do not take Tropan XL if you: are allergic to any of the ingredients present in Tropan XL; are pregnant or breast feeding mother.

Tell your doctor if you have disease or problem: diarrhea, glaucoma, heart or blood vessel disease, high blood pressure, kidney problems, liver problems, myasthenia gravis, nervous system disease.

Take Tropan XLs by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. Oxybutynin works best on an empty stomach. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Do not stop taking Tropan XL or change the dose without consulting with your prescriber. This drug is meant to be taken on a regular basis, so keep on taking the drug as long as recommended by the health care physician. If overdose, immediately consult with your concerned prescriber. Take medical help as quickly as possible if you encounter any bizarre reaction. If you forget to take a dose of Tropan XL, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Remember never take a double dose to compensate the missed dose.

Like all drugs, Tropan XL can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Stop taking Tropan XL and call your physician or go to a hospital immediately if you have an allergic reaction, the symptoms may include: a rash, breathing and swallowing problems, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
