Roliten

Roliten is a medicinal drug that contains the chemical Tolterodine. It is classified as an antimuscarinic drug and is used for the treatment of overactive bladders that exhibit symptoms such as urinary incontinence, frequency and urgency. Roliten is also effective in reducing muscle spasms of the bladder.

Tolterodine, the chemical contained within Roliten, has a lesser number of side effects than oxybutynin (another antimuscarinic drug) and acts on all types of muscarinic receptors.

As already mentioned, Roliten is used in the treatment of overactive bladders that exhibit certain symptoms such as urinary urgency, incontinence and frequency. Roliten also proves to be effective in reducing spasms of the bladder muscles.

It is extremely important that you take Roliten exactly as your doctor prescribes. Be very careful not to take smaller or bigger amounts or administer the drug for a longer time than recommended and explicitly adhere to the directions given on the prescription label. Your doctor may also decide to change your dose occasionally to ensure that you receive the maximum possible benefits from using the drug.

Usually, Roliten is taken with water once a day. Instead of breaking, chewing or crushing the controlled-release capsule, swallow it whole. Breaking the pill open can cause an excessive amount of the drug to be released in one go, destroy the prolonged effect of the drug and increase the onset of side effects.

Roliten should be taken regularly in order to maximize benefits. It is important that you take the drug at the same time each day. Be sure to inform your doctor if your condition fails to improve or on the contrary, worsens. If you end up missing a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If however you remember when it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not however take any extra medication to make up for this missed dose. If you overdose on Roliten, seek emergency medical attention as soon as possible. Some symptoms of overdosing include blurred vision, dryness in the mouth, rapid or irregular heartbeat, mood swings, mental changes, fainting and uncharacteristic excitement.

Using Roliten can prove to be harmful if you happen to be suffering from certain medical conditions. You should avoid using Roliten if you have a blockage in the urinary tract (that is, have difficulty in urinating), a blockage in your digestive tract (that is, in your intestines or stomach) or if you are suffering from uncontrolled or untreated glaucoma of the narrow-angle type. You should also avoid Roliten if you are allergic to tolterodine (which is contained within Roliten).

Additionally, you need to consult a doctor or a pharmacist for dose adjustments or special tests to make sure it is safe for you to use Roliten if you suffer from the following: kidney disease, glaucoma, a family or personal history of suffering from ‘Long QT syndrome', myasthenia gravis, liver disease.

Also, Roliten has the tendency to impair your reflexes, reactions and thinking abilities. Hence, if you are using Roliten, it is imperative that you be especially careful while driving, using heavy machinery or doing anything else that needs you to be especially alert at all times. While being on Roliten, limit your consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Roliten can also cause decreased sweating and thus it is important for you to avoid becoming overheated courtesy saunas, excessive exercise, hot weather or other physically strenuous activities. Failure to avoid these activities may combine with the decreased perspiration to cause heat strokes.

As with most other drugs, Roliten has a number of side effects. If you exhibit allergic reactions to Detrol such as hives, swelling of tongue, swelling of lips, inflammation of throat, swelling of face, appearance of rashes, excessive itching and difficulty in breathing, you should seek emergency medical help right away and consult your doctor immediately.

Serious side effects of using the drug include: urinating less than normal; difficulty in urination; painful urination; inability to urinate; uneven or rapid heart rate; chest pain; hallucinations; xerophthalmia (eye disorder due to deficiency in Vitamin A); signs of kidney infection; lower back pain; severe abdominal pain.
