Novaclav is an antibiotic in a group of drugs called penicillins. Novaclav fights bacteria in the body. Novaclav is used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria, such as sinusitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections and infections of the skin. Novaclav is used to treat a wide range of conditions, from bronchitis to Lyme disease. It is one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics for children, frequently dispensed for ear infections.
Amoxicillin is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by attacking their cell wall. Specifically, it prevents the synthesis of a substance in the cell wall called peptidoglycan, which provides the cell wall with the strength required for survival of bacteria in human body. Clavulanic acid blocks the action of the enzymes produced by bacteria to inactivate the antibiotics.
Novaclav may cause unwanted side effects such as: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cholestatic jaundice, anemia and agitation.
