Fragmin solution for injection is an anticoagulant that prevents the formation of harmful blood clots. Fragmin (Dalteparin sodium injection) is an anticoagulant in the lowmolecular-weight heparin (LMWH) class that can help prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT)blood clots in the large veins. If left untreated, DVTs can travel to the lungs and cause a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism (PE). Fragmin is also used to prevent ischemic complications associated with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
Fragmin is used to treat blood clots (venous thromboembolism) forming after an operation or if you are bedridden due to illness and to prevent their recurrence. Venous thromboembolism is a condition where blood clots develop in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) or the lungs (pulmonary embolism), e.g. after surgery, prolonged bed-rest or pregnancy or in patients with certain types of cancer. Ask your doctor if you are unsure why you have been given Fragmin.
Side Effects: Irritation, bruising and pain at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Fragmin cause bleeding if it's effect on your blood clotting proteins is too much. Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious signs of bleeding, including: unusual pain/swelling/discomfort, dark urine, black stools, severe headache, confusion, vision changes, unusual dizziness, fainting, seizures, weakness, numbness.
