Bisacodyl is the main active pharmaceutical ingredient present in Dulcoflex. Bisacodyl belongs to the class of medications called stimulant laxatives. Bisacodyl should only be used to provide short-term relief from constipation. If you are still constipated after using Bisacodyl for five days, you should seek the doctor’s advice.

Dulcoflex is used to relieve  the occasional constipation. Constipation can be caused by a poor diet, not drinking enough water. Bisacodyl is sometimes also used to clear the bowel before a medical examination, for the preparation of certain medical tests, and in other situations where a bowel movement i required.

Do not take the drug if you: are allergic to this active ingredient Bisacodyl or any other ingredient of the medicine; are severely dehydrated; you are having abdominal surgery.

Tell your doctor if you: have stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or a sudden change in bowel movements lasting more than 2 weeks; are 65 years of age or older; skin reactions such as rash, hives, itching; have any kidney disease; have an ulcer problem; are pregnant or planning to get pregnant in the near future; are a breastfeeding woman.

The dosage of Dulcoflex depends upon your age, weight, medical condition and your response to the treatment. Therefore, your doctor will decide the dose. Take the dose exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Never take two 5 mg tablets to substitute one 10 mg Dulcoflex.

Dulcoflex is usually recommended to be taken with the food or snacks. It is generally  taken at the evening time before a bowel movement is desired. Dulcoflex normally causes a bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours. The tablet is to be swallowed with a glass of water. Do not break or chew the tablet. You should take the dose until you finish the prescription. Do not change the dose or stop it even if you feel better. You should complete the prescribed dose. In case of an overdose, get emergency medical attention or call the doctor immediately. If you miss a dose of Dulcoflex, then take it as soon as you remember. Never take the missed dose if the time to take the next dose is almost up. Taking multiple doses at almost the same time can lead to excess medication in your body which can be harmful.

Side effects of the drug: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, faintness, and stomach discomfort are the common side effects of Dulcoflex. 

If any of these effects continue for a longer time or become worse, contact your doctor immediately. Dulcoflex may rarely cause serious side effects such as:muscle weakness, unusual weight loss, bloating, discolored urine, rectal itching, burning, or swelling.
