Dacilon is a chemotherapy medication that your doctor or oncologist may prescribe if you have been diagnosed with certain cancers. These include Wilm’s tumor, a type of kidney cancer that usually occurs in children; Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer of the muscle; Ewing’s sarcoma, a type of bone cancer; melanoma, a type of skin cancer; and testicular/uterine cancer.

Dacilon) is administered by a qualified medical professional into your vein while you are in a hospital or clinical setting for monitoring while you are receiving this treatment. The dosage and length of time for your therapy will be determined by your doctor and will depend on the type of cancer being treated.

Typical cells in your body know to stop dividing when they come into contact with other cells. However, cancer cells do not follow the rules and they continue to divide repeatedly. Each cell’s RNA (ribonucleic acid) or DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) tells it how to replicate itself. This is where Dacilon steps in to reduce the number of cancer cells as it damages their DNA. Without their DNA to tell the cell how to divide into two new cells, it becomes useless. Cancer cells reproduce so quickly that they do not have time to fix the damaged DNA so their growth slows down.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that has become the most common form of cancer in the USA for young adults between the ages of 25 to 29 years of age. The vast majority of melanomas are caused by the sun’s rays. There are more people that develop skin cancer than smokers that develop lung cancer. Indoor tanning has also been linked to more than 400,000 cases of skin cancer in the USA each year.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, could become pregnant, or are breast feeding before the administration of Dacilon. Both men and women of child bearing age should use protection to prevent a pregnancy until your doctor decides it’s safe. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies you have with your doctor and list any OTC and Rx drugs you are on, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements. This allows your doctor to decide if Dacilon is the right therapy for you.

Do not receive any live vaccines while being treated with Dacilon; these include measles, mumps, rotavirus, chickenpox, and the shingles vaccine. Your immune system will not be working at full capacity due to the effects of Dacilon, so you should try to avoid being in large crowds where you will be exposed to many germs that can make you ill.

Possible Side Effects of Dacilon: nausea or vomiting, skin rash, muscle pain, hair loss.
